His Eminence Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor is Archbishop Emeritus of Westminster. From 1983 to 2000 he was Chair of the Bishops’ Conference Committee for Christian Unity. In 2000 he was awarded a Doctorate of Divinity in recognition of his work for Christian unity. He was installed Archbishop of Westminster on 22 March 2000 and later that year was elected President of the Bishops' Conference. In February 2001 he was created a cardinal by Pope John Paul II. Cardinal Cormac has been a regular contributor to Radio 4’s Thought for the Day.
