"I grew up in London and am an Emergency Department doctor at Croydon University Hospital. Before going into medicine I was a teacher in Feltham, West London. It was then - working with young people with behavioural and emotional issues - that I started becoming interested in the effects of stress on mental and physical well-being. This stayed with me into my medical career and now in the Emergency Department I see many patients whose distress is often as emotional as it is physical. My work often gives me the chance to explore this connection between the mind, the brain and the body. Although an ancient field of enquiry, this is still a new frontier in western medicine and one which the A & E Wellbeing project intends to open up more."
